Best underwater camera for the sea

Underwater cameras are a must- have for capturing amazing marine life. I was using Olympus Tough TG-850 when I visited New Zealand to swim with the dolphins in the sea. Here are some of my top choices based on my own research. Each camera is good it different ways, it depends on your needs and requirements.

Canon Powershot D30

Pros:

  • Waterproof for a depth of 25m or 82 feet
  • Sharp 5x zoom lens (zoom 5 times bigger)
  • Slow motion video mode
  • GPS

Cons

  • Images can be noisy
  • Slow shot to shot time
  • 1080 pixels video limited to 24frames per second (Worldwide standard for movie theater film projectors)
  • No WiFi
  • Outdated features

Recommended for adventurous divers who need waterproof camera that can go deeper waters. The battery life is considerably quite good and is able to last estimate about 300 shots.

Olympus Tough TG-850

Recommended for customers who love to record down memories of you and your friends more perfectly, make easier with the tilted screen. Its quite a tough camera too.

Nikon 1 AW1

  • Waterproof for a depth of 15m or 49 feet

  • Produce excellent image for an underwater camera
  • Good ISO performance

Cons:

  • Costly
  • Few waterproof lens range available
  • For Wi-Fi, an external adapter needs to be connected. This may be inconvenient to some.

Recommended for customers who love photography and want to take quality pictures. Its sensor size is 13.2mm x 8.8mm.

Recommended for thrill seekers. You are able to use the compass to help you seek for new adventures, while not needing to worry about the camera as the camera is tough as you! You can able to take amazing creative photo with the various special modes available.

Conclusion

If there is a budget constraint, and you do not require a very high performing water camera for deep diving, choose Olympus Tough TG-850, its probably good enough.

If you are a enthusiastic diver, Olympus Tough TG-4  with its housing is a good choice, you can go down to a depth of 45m. And, it has long battery life (up to around 380 shots) in relative to the other underwater cameras.  Add to that, the sophisticated features like RAW capture that you can play with.

If high quality picture you are particular about, choose Nikon 1 AW1, it may be the most expensive. But, tt comes with a 11-27mm kit lens which is the world’s first interchangeable underwater lens!
